4.25 stars- I really, down to my toes, found this story and the MCs delightful. Rupert and Callum are great characters, and I love the many ways they were revealed to us at the same time they were revealed to each other, so we were picking up all of these examples of how suited they really were, and how decent they both were, at the same time the characters were. This story takes place over a matter of a few months (a hockey off-season), and in that time the characters meet, fall for each other, and become an insta-family with rescued kid(s), and grapple with coming out. It’s a lot, but this book is 400 pages long so it really doesn’t feel that way. The pacing feels so natural and right that it’s almost shocking to realize this all happened over basically a long summer. This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and it was clear that several side characters had previous books, but I read those books’ blurbs on the author’s website and that was sufficient to know how everyone related.This easily would have been a 5 star read were it not for one incredibly annoying editing issue: this book is dual POV, but has NO transitions between a POV switch. It will literally switch in the middle of a paragraph which is a bit jarring when the two MCs are in the scene together, but is utterly befuddling when they’re separated by a distance. At one point Rupert is hanging with his friends in Moncton and then mid-paragraph Callum is narrating from Las Vegas! I typically don’t mark down for editing in the self-publishing/independent publishing world because professional editing services cost money, but this was distracting enough to take me out of a great story. Still planning to read the other M/M books by this author (she writes a mix of MMF, MF, and M/M). My Review:Wow, wow, wow. Why did I let this book sit for so long in my tbr? It was so, so good!Rupert and Callum are a VERY unlikely couple, even though they both have a stake in this hockey team and making sure it's successful. Rupert is British and very staid and calm and reserved. Callum is NOT. Callum is a hockey player...rough and big and more than a bit intimidating.From the very start they have a contentious relationship. In fact, Rupert is obviously intimidated by Callum's size at the beginning of the book, actually skittering away from him a couple of times. It's certainly not the setup for an obvious relationship.The build up in this book is so, so good. Callum doesn't do tact, he just barrels in and does whatever needs to be done. Rupert analyzes everything. He doesn't understand Callum...at least at first. But Callum is such a good guy, even if he is straight...or is he?There are so many delicious layers to this story. There's Callum's very public profile. The wonderful addition of the wounded Oliver, Rupert's little brother, and how he needs both Callum and Rupert. There's Christian's story and Rupert's secrets. And in the midst of it all are two men who NEVER, EVER expected to connect with anyone, much less one another. Their romance is sweet and sexy and at every turn, melted my heart just a little bit more.This book is so, so good. And it's also hockey, which is always an amazing setting.I adored this book and am so glad that I own it in print, because I'm already planning ahead for when I can re-read it. It was an amazingly gorgeous love story.I highly recommend it!!!
