I’m writing this w/o rating it first(torn). LB is my fav of her genre(hands down). Growing up I read harlequin, arabesque, and kimani romance(the typical). Later in life I got hipped to a different kind of romance. Enter LB(THANK YOU). I was becoming frustrated with the “typical romance”. The story that made me throw in my towel was by a popular old school author. STOP READING-SPOLER. I’m torn saying that. The female runs away pregnant not telling father until kid is almost grown. Something in me snapped(lmao). Because it seemed at one point a lot of authors (in the past)were writing that storyline. For me I don’t think there is romance in that kind of story line. For me it’s heartbreak, but not the romance heartbreak. Im just feeling sorry for the dads and disliking the mothers immensely(selfish). LB’s last series MH. That series and this stand alone.....different stories but same selfish mothers. I didn’t think that 2 of LB’s female clients would have that in common, and then so soon(back to back). After the MH series, TBH I didn’t think she’d ever write abt that again. I was def looking forward to a stand alone w/o selfish mothers. This wasn’t it for me, lol. Again I’m not coming for LB, so respectfully don’t come for me. I’m giving 3 stars b/c I know this is a book I won’t read again. Definitely looking forward to reading more of her work.-Amazing Author...Longterm Fan. SPOILERS AHEAD: The cliches in this book very much center around insta-love, which I now understand why I do not like and was very confused by.As mentioned in the synopsis, the two protagonists meet again after decades apart due to something that, in my opinion, could have been resolved within a few years. The miscommunication cliche coupled with a woman who claims to be a "problem solver" and "thinker" (but actually isn't) made this very hard to get through (not to mention the constant jumps to the past that cheapened my reading experience.) The icing on the cake for me was how we were told time and time again that the characters had grown up and evolved, yet they behaved in the same manner as they did when they were younger?Nothing in this story made sense to me besides having an abusive parent (which, thankfully, I cannot relate to but can sympathize with.)I've read other works from this author, so I'm thoroughly baffled as to why this feels like such a regressive story, but I'm going to chalk it up to me not being the target audience.If you enjoyed Trent and Jade Bailey's story (immaturity masked as self-preservation), love women who use their age as reason to be deceitful and ignorant, and men who accept whatever women give them as long as they can cook, this is for you.
